Shishigashira ("lion's head") is a Japanese maple cultivar known for its densely clustered, crinkled leaves and tightly packed branching. Its naturally compact growth habit has made it a favorite for bonsai for generations.
In autumn its foliage turns a deep red, and the density of the leaves makes the seasonal color especially striking.
